The entire world is suddenly discussing Artificial Intelligence or AI.
AI is already all around us, from Alexa in your kitchen to Siri on your phone, but new names like ChatGPT, Dall-E, Jasper, and others feel like they’ve blown up the internet.
These new ideas take things to the next level, allowing us to write articles, search the web using natural language, generate images, write code, and discover new ways to make our lives easier.
However, emerging technology almost always begins in a flurry of geek-speak before settling into everyday life. The ‘DOS prompt’ may be remembered by early PC users. And when was the last time you had to ‘defrag’ your phone?
Experts believe that these new AI tools will serve as the foundation for a whole new world of technology, redefining how we interact with computers and machines.
So let us decipher some of the terms you’ll hear this year.
Chatbot
To begin with, a chatbot is an app that simulates human-to-human contact. Simply type or speak normally, and the chatbot will respond in kind. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot. Give it a shot if you haven’t already.
Deep learning
Deep learning is a technique used to mimic the human brain by learning from data. To respond to requests, current search tools and systems employ pre-programmed algorithms. AI tools are trained on real-world concepts and conversations, and they learn as they go to provide human-like responses.
Machine intelligence
Machine intelligence is an umbrella term that encompasses machine learning, deep learning, and traditional algorithms. “Will machine intelligence outperform human ingenuity? ”
Natural Language Understanding (NLU)
Natural Language Understanding (NLU) assists machines in understanding what we say, even if we make grammatical mistakes or speak with different regional accents.
Weak AI
Weak AI is the most common type of AI in use today. This is non-sentient and typically focuses on one or a few activities, such as writing or repurposing video content. Strong AI, on the other hand has the goal of producing systems that are as intelligent and skilled as the human mind. Just not right now.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, but trust us when we say you’ll be hearing a lot more about AI in the coming months and years.
