Azure: Don’t sleep on this simple, effective security booster

September 8, 2024 by jaypee

Microsoft just recently said that soon, all Azure sign-ins will need multi-factor authentication (MFA) to make them safer. Even if you are not using Azure, the cloud computing platform, you should be aware of this. Because multi-factor authentication is one of the most easy and effective ways to secure your digital assets.

What is multi-factor authentication? Consider it like putting an extra layer of security to your business’s entryway.

Normally, you log into your accounts using only a password. However, passwords are no longer as secure as they once were; cybercriminals are skilled at breaking them. MFA gives an additional degree of security. It’s like saying, “Okay, you have the key, but I’ll also need to see some ID.”

After entering your password, you are prompted to confirm your identity again. This may include a code given to your phone, a fingerprint scan, or a simple touch on an app like Microsoft Authenticator. It is an additional but necessary step. Even if someone steals your password, they will still require this second form of verification to access your account. That is a major obstacle.

Yes, adding another step to your sign-in procedure may sound inconvenient. However, it is a minor inconvenience that will save you a lot of effort in the long run. Consider the consequences if someone acquired access to your important company information. The cost of a breach, in terms of both money and reputation, much outweighs the few extra seconds required to employ MFA.

There are several ways to set up MFA. Some individuals prefer to get a one-time passcode by text message, while others prefer the ease of a push notification on their smartphone. Biometric alternatives, such as fingerprints and face recognition, are also growing increasingly popular. There are also physical security keys that may be plugged into your computer for more security.

Microsoft’s Azure drive for multi-factor authentication is only the beginning. In reality, this type of security solution is a basic requirement for corporate security.

Need help setting this up and making it easy for your business? It’s what we do. Get in touch.
