The Passkey

October 26, 2022 by jaypee

In the next few months Apple will introduce Passkey. It’s the first tech company to launch, but Google and Microsoft will be adopting them too.

Passkeys should revolutionize security and see passwords die for ever. Hooray!

There’s no need for you to remember login details. Passkeys uses your phone to prove its you. person trying input passkey on their phone

You must have your phone near your computer. And you just unlock it using your face or fingerprint in the usual way. Your phone and computer talk, and – that’s it – you’re logged in.

This is SO much easier than using a password. And it makes phishing scams less likely, as someone won’t be able to login without your unlocked phone near their computer.

If the tech giants have their way, the Passkey will start on our computers and eventually become the standard way to login to everything.

We will probably recommend you embrace them. Until then, we recommend you get a password manager for everyone on your team to generate and remember passwords for them.

When a security measure makes someone’s life easier, they are much more likely to embrace it.

Want to talk this through? Give us a call.
