This may be the craziest thing you read today.
You’ve probably heard of Software as a Service, or SaaS. It’s typically software you use in your browser, like Gmail or Dropbox.
SaaS doesn’t just exist for legitimate businesses like ours. It’s a thing for criminals too.
In fact, they have Ransomware as a Service (RaaS).
Ransomware is where your data is encrypted until you pay a ransom fee. It’s terrifying to see, and very hard to undo once an attack has launched.
Ransomware as a Service is for criminals who haven’t got the ability to develop their own malicious software, but still want the money it can bring in.
The software’s developers take a cut of the profits generated. In Q3 of 2020, RaaS grew by 40%.
15 new affiliate schemes appeared last year, and some of them even run special offers to entice new subscribers. Worse, subscribers don’t even need to be highly skilled to use these tools.
And that means that all businesses – no matter what size – are potential targets.
To keep your business protected from an attack, you must increase your security software and staff training.
